Arktite non-metallic plugs, sockets and connectors

Made of Krydon fibreglass-reinforced polyester, Crouse-Hinds series Arktite non-metallic plugs, sockets and connectors are used to supply power to portable electrical devices such as welders, motors, pumps and conveyors.  Available in 30A, 60A and 100A, these pin-and-sleeve devices are ideal for use in non-hazardous areas of chemical plants, sewage treatment facilities, cement works, pulp and paper, food processing and other industrial facilities.

Arktite non-metallic pin-and-sleeve devices feature an innovative arc-snuffing design that enables large power loads to be disconnected under load without causing an arc flash in the area.

Certification and compliance

  • UL standards: UL1682, UL1010 Hazardous Locations (NPJ plug only)
  • CSA standard: C22.2 No. 182.1
  • Wet and damp locations; watertight

Design features

  • Plugs, sockets, cord connectors and motor plugs are moulded of Krydon fibreglass-reinforced polyester, which is highly resistant to corrosion, heat, weathering and physical abuse
  • Grounding contacts that make first and break last in the unlikely event of a keyway failure
  • Split-pin contact design provides 360° of electrical contact
  • Spring door provides environmental protection for the socket (NEMA 4)
  • Keyed for a perfect match in the moulded one-piece insulator housing
  • Sealing gaskets at all critical points inside Arktite plugs and sockets protect against dust, dirt, mud, water and corrosive contaminants
  • Plugs can be used in both hazardous and non-hazardous areas when used with appropriately rated Arktite sockets
  • Total interchangeability with all existing Arktite products for comparable ratings and configurations
  • A unique patented strain relief design prevents stress from reaching wire terminations at the contacts

Standard materials

  • Housing, interiors, spring doors, clamping rings – Krydon fibreglass-reinforced polyester
  • Gaskets and O-rings – neoprene
  • Cable clamping basket – nylon
  • Contacts – pressure: brass; crimp/solder: leaded brass
  • Snap-on cap – moulded elastomer
  • Back boxes – copper-free aluminium
