Robotic Fiber Panel Systems

Eaton’s Robotic Fiber Panel Systems (RFPS) are a cutting-edge solution that can break through the physical layer bottleneck in data centres, colocation facilities, edge-of-network installations, telcos and large enterprise IT infrastructure. These rack-mounted patch panels use remote control and automated robotic latching to optimise fibre network management.

Unprecedented capabilities

These rack-mountable patch panels establish up to 512 automated physical duplex fibre connections with robotic precision and remote-control convenience. Data centres, test labs, colocation facilities, telcos and remote/edge facilities can use an RFPS to reduce the time and money spent on routine network connection tasks, boost efficiency in their fibre infrastructure and add resilience and scalability to their network. Additionally, 204-port Mini Robotic Fiber Panel Systems are available.

These are ideal tools for IT professionals designing new 5G fibre infrastructure or looking to manage existing infrastructure with processes that are simpler and more cost-effective.

Robotics at the Edge

A robotic fibre automation solution can bring infrastructure and networking together into a true software-defined network that significantly reduces costs and enables new services. Eaton’s Robotic Fiber Panel System (RFPS) is the first solution to automate physical changes in a fibre network. It employs robotic latching and remote management to establish or reconfigure physical single-mode or multi-mode fibre connections between switches and servers quickly and accurately.

Network automation at the physical layer

Artificial intelligence, machine learning and a variety of network virtualisation tools are helping to improve these processes by capturing, analysing and utilising relevant data quickly. But one process that advances in technology have struggled to optimise is the making and breaking of physical cable connections, which is still frustratingly reliant on manual labour. Robotic technology is key to overcoming this automation hurdle – specifically, automation at the physical foundation of network infrastructure, also known as layer 0 (zero).

Single-mode

Two single-mode fibre models are available – a 10U/512-port model and a 7U/204-port “mini” model.

  • NRFP-LCU-1 is a required accessory for NRFP Robotic Fiber Panel Systems which controls the connected Eaton’s NRFP Robotic Fiber Panel System via the included signalling Y cable.

Multi-mode

Two multi-mode fibre models are available – a 10U/512-port model and a 7U/204-port “mini” model.
