Catalog loading charts for strut are based on 25,000 psi design stress, but if the actual strength of the steel in a particular lot can’t be verified, the load chart data, or safety factor can’t be validated or guaranteed.

Structural-quality steel must meet established chemical and strength requirements. Even as metal strut replaces angle iron and other traditional ASTM A36 structural steel shapes, retaining the integrity of the metal channel system using structural-grade materials remains important.

Easy material and product identification

B-Line series strut systems employ heat code numbering plus another step to help users identify a structural-quality steel product. The strut identification program involves stamping each part with the B-Line name, part number and, for stainless steel, the material type.

This part numbering system includes the gauge thickness and dimensions. For stainless steel, the allow type is shown for quality assurance and on-site identification.

B-Line series steel strut is stamped every 18 inches with:

• B-Line name
• Part number (example: B22, designating 12-gauge, 1-5/8” x 1-5/8”)
• Material (example: SS6 - 316, designating stainless steel)
• Heat code number (example: 87401A6, traceable to the steel’s origin)
