Functional Safety Management (FSM)

Many Crouse-Hinds series MTL products are certified for use in hazardous areas, where explosive gases or dusts may be present. The products are designed and certified to eliminate the possibility of the gas or dust in the atmosphere igniting and causing fire or explosion.

Another type of safety is called Functional Safety.  This applies to products used in safety and protection systems, where a failure may mean that a protective system will not operate as it should.

MTL products, a part of Eaton's Crouse-Hinds series portfolio, have been used in safety systems for decades, but there are increasing requirements to demonstrate an adequate level of functional safety.  More and more, customers are demanding that products they use in safety systems meet the International standard IEC 61508:2010, which mandates that everyone involved in the safety systems lifecycle must demonstrate Functional Safety Management.

Eaton and its Crouse-Hinds series MTL portfolio are certified as a Functional Safety Management (FSM) Company.  Assessed through an external certifying body (SIRA) which is audited by an accredited national body (UKAS), Eaton demonstrates its competence to design and market products in accordance to the IEC 61508:2010 standard.

FSM certification gives customers confidence and assurance of quality process management when using MTL products in safety instrumented systems (SIS) without the need for further verification of documentation.
