Switching to SF6-free MV switchgear
As we expand our power grids to accommodate the electrification and numerous renewable energy sources, the installation of electrical switching equipment becomes increasingly vital. However, there is a pressing concern: the prevalent use of SF6 gas in these systems.
The EU has been driving regulations to mitigate the climate impact of all types of F-gases including the use of SF6 in electrical switchgear, and January 29, 2024 the process resulted in a new EU regulation on phasing down F-gases. The electrical industry now has a two-year period to get ready to comply with the new regulation. From January 2026, the use of new medium-voltage switchgear that relies on SF6 in the category up to, and including, 24 kV, will be prohibited by law.
In this webinar, we will discuss the urgency of reducing SF6 emissions, explore the essential information in the new SF6 legislation, and considerations to keep in mind when navigating the gradual phase-out of switchgear that relies on SF6.
