easyE4 programmable relays

The easyE4 control relay from Eaton's Moeller series is ideally suited for implementing the control and regulation of various applications efficiently, flexibly and simply. The device series offers a wide range of communication options via the integrated Ethernet interface featuring the functions of a mini PLC for machine and system control. With the integrated Modbus TCP client and server functionality of the easyE4, components of different levels can be integrated. The communication modules for Modbus RTU and SmartWire-DT make the easyE4 to Eaton's smart relay enabling the monitoring of your machine and system. Thanks to the flexible expansion of the base devices with up to 11 I/O modules and the wide range of voltages (AC, DC, UC), the easyE4 is ideally suited for applications in industry as well as in the building sector. In addition to the simple handling, programming the easyE4 devices is also very easy. The intuitive easySoft software offers users four programming languages. easyE4 also offers a wide range of visualization options - whether on mobile devices thanks to the integrated web server or on industrial displays. Many other functions make the easyE4 a powerful micro controller that can also be integrated into IoT system architectures.

More flexibility with less components

The easyE4 base devices and input/output expansion modules are available with DC, AC and UC (universal) voltage, which makes the devices ideal for use in machine building or building applications. By means of up to 11 expansion modules, the base devices can be expanded to max. 188 inputs/outputs. All the expansions can be mixed and combined as required. Thanks to the clever plug-in technology, the expansion modules can be quickly connected or replaced. 

Ethernet interface for IoT solutions

The easyE4 control relays are truly versatile. Up to 8 easyE4 devices can combined within one easyNET network. However, integrated into system architectures the control relays demonstrate what they are truly capable of. Thanks to the easyE4's functionality as a Modbus TCP client and server, the control relay can be integrated into Modbus TCP networks and also set up a Modbus TCP network itself. By using this standard protocol, the easyE4 is open for connection to numerous Eaton products, such as the XV100 touch display or the DA1 frequency inverter and the S811+ soft starter. The implementation of IoT system solutions is also easily possible via the Ethernet interface.

Visualization without programming effort

The ‘easy’ Remote Touch Display provides a simple and cost-effective option for mirroring the display and keypad of the easyE4 and showing status information outside the control cabinet. No programming or time-consuming set-up is required; the 'easy' Remote Touch Display is intuitive to use and can be quickly put into operation. Colors stored in the programming of the easyE4 can also be reproduced, for example in the form of colored text or backgrounds, enabling operators or maintenance technicians to quickly identify the device status. The Remote Touch Display can be configured via the main menu button where the language can also be switched to one of the 13 different language options. This visualization device can thus be used to control all easyE4 functions and display options in the same way as the “real” control relay keypad.

Consistent Modbus system solutions

In addition to the on-board functionality of the easyE4 as a Modbus TCP client and server, it is also possible to expand the base device with the compact Modbus RTU communication module. The control relay can then be used as a master or, in its function as a slave, pass on data to higher-level control solutions. As a master, process data, status information or parameter settings of connected Modbus RTU devices, such as the NZM digital circuit-breaker, the PKE electronic motor-protective circuit-breaker or the DM1 frequency inverter, can be read and written via the easyE4. Modbus RTU devices from third-party suppliers can also be integrated into the system solution. Data transmission is possible even over cable lengths of several hundred meters without the use of additional repeaters, which is a cost-effective control solution especially for extensive applications.

Create intelligent solutions

The easyE4 communication module for SmartWire-DT (SWD) perfectly combines the advantages of the powerful control relay and Eaton's intelligent SmartWire-DT wiring system. Information on the status of all connected devices, such as measured current values, motor frequencies and switching statuses, is available via the easyE4, just as with a monitoring relay. This simplifies diagnosis and troubleshooting. In addition, parameters such as setpoints of the motor frequency for frequency converters can be conveniently adjusted using the control relay. Furthermore, the connection to the SWD network also ensures a compact overall solution inside and outside the control cabinet. The SWD communication module offers customers who have previously used the easy800 series with SmartWire-DT an optimal opportunity to switch to the new easy generation.

Base device display and mobile devices

With the display on the base device, texts and values can be displayed and adapted directly on the easyE4 device. Thanks to the integrated web server remote visualization and access are also possible via all mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets. In addition, the web server provides automatic notifications via email.

The easy Remote Touch Display is the remote control for your application, which mirrors the contents and keypad of the easy base device in color and with which you can control it - and all this without programming the RTD! The display is available in 4.3" as plug & work solution offering an alternative to a multifunction display.

The powerful easyE4 XV-102 devices in 3.5” and a 5.7” offer you all design options from diagrams to icons and images to create an individual user interface. Eaton’s intuitive Galileo software supports you during conceptual design and commissioning. As visualization software it is included free of charge.

Tailor-made programming options

The user-friendly easySoft software, which is used to program the easyE4 devices, offers a quick and easy introduction to programming. Circuit diagrams can either be created and adapted on a PC, or directly on the base device. To this end, four different programming languages (EDP, LD, FBD, ST) are available, which can be combined as required. Find out more within our easySoft tutorials.

    Application Programming Interface (API)

    Using a standardized infrastructure, the built-in Ethernet of the easyE4, so-called JSON objects are exchanged between the easyE4 and the connected web participants via the API. It is not absolutely necessary for the easyE4 to be connected to the Internet in order to benefit from the wide range of possibilities. 

    easyE4 in conjunction with API and Node-RED

    The easyE4's web server functionality allows you to visualize your system and control the easyE4 remotely without much effort. Using development environments such as Node-Red, the easyE4 can also be synchronized with SmartHome devices like a Wifi control relay.

    Node-Red, the easyE4 can also be synchronized with SmartHome devices. In conjunction with the JSON API, the easyE4 can then be combined and controlled with all common voice assistants. There are no limits to the variety of possibilities!

    Use the Micro-SD card for programming

    Each base device is equipped with a micro SD card slot. Via the SD card, existing programs can simply be uploaded to the devices, which makes it much easier to commission series production systems, for example. In addition, an individual start-up image can also be uploaded, for example your company logo. The SD card is also used for data logging and the subsequent evaluation of operating states. In addition, the firmware update can be done via the SD card.
