Medium-voltage transformers

Envirotran solar and energy storage three-phase pad-mounted transformers

Eaton’s Cooper Power series Envirotran solar and energy storage transformers are designed for solar photovoltaic and energy storage medium-voltage applications. Friendlier to the environment, these pad-mounted transformers are filled with biodegradable and sustainable FR3 dielectric fluid, which also provides enhanced fire protection and a longer lifespan. Available in 45 through 12,000 kVA ratings, these solar and energy storage transformers may also be customized with a variety of site-specific characteristics to optimize safety and system integration.

Core features

  • FR3 dielectric fluid provides fire safety, equipment reliability and a projected lifespan well beyond that of a traditional mineral-oil transformer making it a key component in balance of system (BOS) distributed energy resources (DER) solutions
  • Custom optimized transformer designs for specific loading profiles, impedance requirements, and single or multiple inverter connections
  • Increased overload capability above nameplate without loss of insulation life
  • Eaton's Cooper Power series transformers are built with Eaton manufactured bushings, medium-voltage connectors, arresters, loadbreak switches, tap changer switches and fusing allowing full technology and supply chain integration
  • Fully complements other Eaton solar/energy balance of system (BOS) solutions  including DC and AC combiners, disconnects, fuses, breakers and AC recombiners,  padmounted switchgear, pole-mounted reclosers, air switches, capacitors and a full offering of services

Solar AC collection system: field installation

This video demonstrates how quick and easy it is to install Eaton's close-coupled low-voltage throat connection between a typical 2500 kVA pad-mounted transformer and low-voltage AC recombiner switchboard.

Increased transformer reliability and lifespan

Filled with FR3 fluid made from soybeans, Eaton's Cooper Power series Envirotran solar transformers are friendlier to the environment, non-toxic and non-hazardous. With a carbon-neutral footprint, FR3 fluid substantially extends transformer insulation life, while enhancing overall system reliability and performance.

Customize your transformers

Eaton can help you create a customized transformer based on site-specific characteristics including loading profile, temperature profile, site altitude and required system life. Transformer low voltage bushing locations can be customized for all models of solar/energy storage central or string inverters and allow for cabled or close-coupled connections.

Superior overload capability

Eaton's Envirotran solar cooling system provides unparalleled protection, enabling transformers to tolerate greater overloads for longer periods without abnormal loss of insulation life.
