Additional overvoltage protection for switching overvoltages

Designed to protect most electrical consumer installations against switching overvoltage or indirect lightning strikes. At the very least T2 devices are recommended and are already mandatory in many European countries.

Necessity of overvoltage protection

Installation of surge protection devices is intended to ensure voltage limitation in accordance with insulation coordination, avoiding sparking which could cause a fire. Overvoltage protection devices should be installed to reduce the effects of overvoltage. This applies to the electrical systems of all buildings from residential homes up to hospitals, communications infrastructure, and other public buildings, aswell as commercial/industrial sites, for example hotels, banks, shops and factories.

Prevent the spread of overvoltages

Type-2 SPDs are installed in each electrical switchboard to prevent the spread of overvoltage in an electrical installation. Eaton's SPCT2 is used for the protection against transient overvoltage caused by switching-operations and indirect lightning strikes.
