5-15 kV Medium-voltage metal-enclosed breaker

Eaton’s metal-enclosed breaker (MEB) switchgear consists of a single high-drawout vacuum circuit breaker (Type VCP-W) in a metal-enclosed cabinet. 

When deployed as primary protection for a single-ended substation, the MEB can eliminate the need for a secondary main circuit breaker. It can also be applied as the primary main device and integrated with fused or unfused feeder switches in Eaton metal-enclosed switchgear. The MEB 5/15kV switchgear meets or exceeds all required industry standards (IEEE, ANSI and NEMA).

  • Classified as an overcurrent device, the metal-enclosed breaker enhances system protection and increases coordination with upstream and downstream devices that cannot achieve these benefits with a switch/fuse combination
  • MEB switchgear is used for single or multiple circuits, transformer primaries, and mains for medium-voltage switchgear applications
  • Configurations with an automatic transfer control system easily accommodated
  • All protective devices and metering conveniently mounted on the switchgear structure door 
  • Both indoor and outdoor non-walk-in enclosures are available, as well as custom designs
  • Metal-enclosed breaker meets or exceeds the following industry standards: ANSI/IEEE C37.20.3.ANSI/IEEE C37.20.4, ANSI C37.22, ANSI C37.57, ANSI C37.58, CSA 22.2 No. 31. CSA listed for Canada and U.S. markets

Multi-use protection

The Metal Enclosed Breaker (MEB) can be applied in a variety of configurations:

  • Primary protection for a single-ended substation –eliminates the need for a secondary main circuit breaker
  • Primary main device integrated with fused or unfused feeder switches in Eaton metal-enclosed switchgear
  • Incorporate into a two- and three-breaker automatic transfer scheme
