Power breaker reconditioning and remanufacturing

Eaton offers a host of refurbishment and repair solutions that extend the useful life of electrical power systems while improving reliability and safety. Eaton’s Class 1 reconditioning utilizes advanced equipment and state-of-the-art testing to restore circuit breakers to their maximum capability, regardless of the original manufacturer.

Core features

  • Class 1 reconditioning is an in depth process that ensures the highest level of reliability and performance for the end user's power circuit breakers
  • Upgraded trip unit kits are available, including Digitrip RMS trip unit with Arcflash Reduction Maintenance SystemTM feature
  • For applications that require less than the full service, Class 2 and 3 reconditioning are additional options

Class 1 Reconditioning

Eaton’s Class 1 Reconditioning process helps enhance coordination, improve system reliability, and increase the life of medium and low-voltage power circuit breakers. The reconditioning and rebuild process includes:

  • Inspection, documentation, disassembly per our procedure*, careful cleaning, reassembly, testing to manufacturer and IEEE standards, and ongoing tracking in POW-R-Master database (*where disassembly is not practical, replace component with new or reconditioned)
  • Optional installation of Digitrip RMS trip unit retrofit kit that restores breaker to full capacity with longer life and state-of-the-art new trip unit
  • Mechanical and electrical operations performed per original manufacturer’s information, IEEE standards, and Class 1 specification
  • Reconditioning at one of five established regional Power Breaker Reconditioning Centers, each of which strictly adheres to nationally recognized standards and quality processes.

Magnum DS remanufacturing

Eaton’s exclusive remanufacturing service for Magnum DS circuit breakers extends their useful life and restores circuit breakers to like-new condition, using genuine new Eaton components, saving time and money over replacement units.  Benefits include:

  • Restoration completed by factory trained and authorized service technicians at Eaton’s Power Breaker Reconditioning Center in Warrendale, PA
  • New operating mechanism and racking mechanisms installed per Eaton’s proprietary specifications
  • Fully tested and inspected documented by a written test report

Factory Authorized Mechanism Enhancement (FAME)

Increase the life of Eaton’s medium-voltage VCP-W vacuum circuit breakers and MV-VR circuit breakers with the FAME upgrade, while also significantly reducing costs and ongoing maintenance requirements.

Remote power racking system (RPR-2.1)

Eaton’s RPR-2.1 enables remote racking of many manufacturers' low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers that can be inserted or removed using the rotation of a shaft. Operators may remain 25 feet or more away from the switchgear door during the racking process, which is outside of the arc flash protection boundary.
